What's New
Great News for those who need Skilled Nursing Care or Assisted Living Services!Lake Park is currently accepting a limited number of admissions directly from the community into both its Skilled Nursing (Health Center) and Assisted Living Center (ALC). Admission to both Centers located conveniently in the same building are done on a space-available basis. Lake Park’s five star rated skilled nursing center offers both private and semi-private accommodations, for either short or long term stays, and is Medicare certified. The personalized care, fine dining, ready access to Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy as well as an outstanding activities program pleases residents and brings peace of mind to their families.
Lake Park’s newly renovated assisted living apartments help bridge the gap between independent living and skilled nursing by allowing residents to live as independently as possible for as long as possible in a residential setting. All suites can be personalized by the resident’s furnishings and include kitchenettes, newly outfitted bathrooms with walk-in showers. Many have wide verandas that invite container plantings. Assisted living care provides residents help with activities of daily living (called ADLS) such as eating, bathing, grooming, dressing, ambulation, laundry, housekeeping and assistance with medication. Medically-prescribed diets can be accommodated under the direction of our registered dietitian. An organized activity program and full access to the new Active Living Center keeps residents occupied and happy. Assisted living care is not an alternative to skilled nursing services but is a less intensive level of long term care appropriate to many seniors. Short term stays can be accommodated in our specially furnished apartments. Of major importance: all ADL services are included in the single daily rate and are not subject to extra fees. There are NO “Community Fees” or entrance fees imposed for direct admission to Assisted Living at Lake Park.

February 14, 2:00-3:30p.m. Happiness: If Not Now, When? by Robert Nozik, M.D. and author.
"Happiness," said Aristotle, "is the ultimate goal." Now, nearly 2500 years later, we have made enormous progress in almost every aspect of life except happiness. Dr. Nozik, author of Happy for Life: Here's How to Do It, has studied happiness ever since developing his own deep, inner happiness 20 years ago. He will look at the role of 'happiness science' and 'positive psychology' and delve into the 12 Keys for developing 'Ideal Happiness.' Seniors have real advantages when it comes to cultivating true happiness. Find out what it will take for you to become happier than you ever thought possible."
March 20, 2012 - 2:00-3:30p.m. The Triangle Fire of 1911 by Gerald Henig, professor emeritus of history, CSUEB. On Saturday afternoon, March 25, 1911, a cataclysmic fire swept through the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in Lower Manhattan. One hundred and forty-six employees perished, trapped on the top floors. Most of them were immigrants, women and girls, some as young as 13. Professor Henig will put this tragedy in historical context and explore the issues it raised regarding a new tide of immigrant workers, the role of labor unions, government regulation of workplaces, and women’s rights. 100 years on, they’re all still with us.
OLLI lectures are free to OLLI members and Lake Park residents/ $5.00 for non-members.
The Active Living Center has become a magnet attracting more and more residents to its many activities. The Computer Center is busy from morning to night for sending messages, creating poetry and testing skills at puzzles and games. Residents also benefit from group exercising and can now participate in the one hour Fallproof Balance and Mobility Group Training Sessions conducted by Exercise Physiologist Diane LaCroix. The Art Studio is buzzing with new works under way and the Audubon Room is the scene of conferences and discussion groups.
The gardens are all in full flower and it is worth the trip just to come and see both the rare specimens and all the familiar flowers in bloom.
